Armour prevents Toughness damage from weapons like the Gatling Gun, but is destroyed and will not be automatically repaired at a shipyard.
The Railgun and Cannon are both effective ways of dealing with armoured hostiles as the Railgun can pierce through armour and the Cannon is effective at removing it with its large area of effect.
